2003 world champion Petter Solberg holds a 0.2 second lead after the opening stage of the Mexico Rally!!!
The 36-year-old Norwegian finished Guanajuato’s tricky 1.05km street stage in 53.2 seconds, despite appearing to nudge a wall in the tunnel section. “It was crazy in there with so many people,” said Solberg, after finishing narrowly ahead of seven-times world champion Sebastien Loeb. “We had a moment in the tunnel but we’re okay.” Loeb’s French compatriot Sebastien Ogier finished third, a further 0.3 seconds back, and is looking forward to stage two getting underway on Friday. “It’s not rally but it’s okay with a rally car running inside an amazing city,” he said. “We just drove in the middle of the road absolutely no risk. The real rally starts in the morning.” SS1 Guanajuato Street Stage results 1. Petter Solberg 53.2s 2. Sebastien Loeb +0.2 3. Sebastien Ogier +0.5 4. Jari-Matti Latvala +1.2 5. Mikko Hirvonen +1.6 6.
